Performance requirements for Colour Management Displays

Accurate colour reproduction is necessary to be successful within the Printing and Design industry. Colour management is a process of ensuring accurate and consistent colour reproduction in all steps of the project workflow. The overall colour management process utilises many different types of technology in the steps between the design process and the finished, printed product. Devices such as scanners and digital cameras provide input. Design software and computers create documents. Digital devices output the final piece, be it via digital printer for composite output, or printing plates to be used on a printing press.

In an effort to reduce film cost and to save printing time, printing companies are moving away from the traditional proofing process of generating a print sample, relying instead on digital proofs for client approval. This is partly a result of the workflow becoming more digitally oriented with the spread of digital cameras and computer generated artwork. Due to this workflow transition, it is necessary for the display system to be capable of reproducing precise colour at any time.
