Amazingly Realistic Colours in a 30” Wide-Format Display: NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQXi

Munich, April 7, 2008 - NEC display Solutions is proudly bringing its NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQXi 30” wide-format professional display onto the market, aimed at high-end applications from CAD/CAM and finance to digital image processing and pre-press printing.  Its excellent reproduction of detail with high 2,560 x 1,600 pixel resolution also makes the monitor eminently suitable for the on-screen analysis of high resolution satellite images. An innovative calibration function is also a special feature of the NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQXi. It allows adjustment of luminance, white point and gamma curve without the need for an external sensor or PC. Covering over 100% of the NTSC colour space, the NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQXi also offers particularly accurate colour reproduction. The new model has a contrast ratio of up to 1000:1 and a response time of 6 ms. A total of two digital interfaces with HDCP support are available and allow the display of encrypted HD video content.

The NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQXi is the new flagship display of NEC Display Solutions’ high-end desktop series, with extensive design features optimised to make it suitable for numerous professional applications. The widescreen display has a colour space covering more than 100% of the NTSC colour scale or 97.8% Adobe RGB, making it ideal for use in pre-press printing or digital image processing. With a maximum resolution of 2,560 x 1,600 pixels, the 30” display is impressive in its crystal-clear representation of detail and text, making it ideal for layout editing up to size DIN A2. These features make the display additionally suitable for deployment as a viewing screen in the semi-medical sector, and also ideal for the evaluation of satellite images.

An outstanding technical feature of the NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQXi is the possibility of calibrating the display without the need of a PC, by means of a commercially-available external sensor (EyeOne Display 2) with a direct USB connection. The calibration adjusts luminance (individual target values), colour temperature (R/G/B gains) and gamma curve via values offered by an on-screen menu. The white point can be set to one of a selection of values (9300K, 8200K, 7500K, sRGB (6500K), 5000K, native or programmable). For the calibration of the gamma curve, the characteristic gamma curve of the display is measured and directly corrected within the monitor’s hardware using internal 12-bit look-up tables. Particularly with colour-critical dual-screen applications, it’s important that both displays have exactly the same settings in order to guarantee identical image reproduction. This is achieved by the calibration function allowing the settings of a reference monitor to be applied to additional displays.

For reliable and consistent performance during the entire operational life of the display the monitor comes with a number of specially developed features: X-light® Pro measures the brightness and colour of the backlight as well as the internal temperature and automatically keeps the values set by the user constant. This guarantees image reproduction during the warming-up phase as well as normal operation. ColorComp automatically optimises in real time brightness, colour and the gamma attributes, to ensure colour consistency and a homogenous display – essential for colour-critical applications. To this end, each individual monitor is tested before distribution and deviations from homogeneity compensated for at the individual pixel level - each pixel also being separately optimised.

Whether the NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQXi is used for CAD/CAM or video applications, moving images are represented with razor sharp clarity. Using overdrive technology the display offers grey switching times of 6 ms, with a contrast ratio of up to 1000:1 at a maximum brightness of 350 cd/m2. This ensures brilliant images, as well as homogenous and flowing transitions.

Ergonomics and ease of operation

The excellent ergonomic characteristics of the display are particularly beneficial to users who spend extended periods of time at a PC. With a widescreen diagonal picture size of 30” the NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQXi offers an active image display of 641 x 401 millimetres – plenty of space for the clear presentation of toolbars, additional windows or a life-sized DIN A2 document. A high quality H-IPS panel ensures large viewing angles of up to 178° (horizontal and vertical) without colour distortion (colour shift), thereby guaranteeing easy-on-the-eye and fatigue-free working. In addition, the NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQX can be adjusted by up to 190 mm in height and be rotated through 90° to operate in portrait mode. The OSM is user-friendly and has been optimised for intuitive navigation. A keyguide also allows successful use of the OSM in all ambient lighting conditions, via the representation of menu buttons on the active display.

Future-proof and investment protection

To ensure maximum future-proofing, NEC Display Solutions has equipped the display with numerous features to allow the greatest possible compatibility with other equipment. An analogue/digital DVI-I port and a digital DVI-D port have been integrated with Ambix3™. The digital DVI ports can both be simultaneously used. HDCP support allows copy-protected HD material to be conveniently displayed at up to 1080 pixel (progressive) resolution. Reducing the power consumption has also been considered. The screen brightness automatically adapts itself to the ambient brightness via the AmbiBright function and an integrated ambient light sensor. This conserves power, whilst also being easy on the eyes and optimises the operational life of the display. This function even allows the display to switch itself off should the lighting in the room be switched off by central control. The integrated Vacation Switch, PowerOff Timer and Real Time Clock with scheduler all ensure that the display is switched off when it is not being used.

Availability and Warranty

The NEC MultiSync® LCD3090WQXi is now commercially available, either in white with a silver bezel, or in black at a price of 2.399 Euro (inc. VAT). Included in the packaging is a power cable, a separate analogue and a separate digital signal cable, a handbook as well as an installation and drivers CD.
