Munich, , 20th June 2008 – When purchasing LCD displays, business today has far wider considerations than just technical features and specifications. Total cost of ownership (TOC), cost-performance ratio and environmental impact factors all play a decisive role in the appropriate choice of display model. With its new NEC MultiSync® EA series, NEC Display Solutions is fulfilling all these exacting requirements. The first model in the new series, the NEC MultiSync® EA191M, unites outstanding image quality and first-class display characteristics with an excellent economic performance. Beyond that, as a display manufacturer NEC Display Solutions is also focussing hard on environmentally-friendly technologies and materials. The 5:4 format 19” display has now been awarded an EPEAT silver certificate (Electronics Product Environmental Assessment Tool), whilst for additional transparency regarding its CO2 emissions, the new product has also been equipped with a carbon footprint meter.
The launch of the new MultiSync® EA series is in keeping with the high-quality tradition of NEC‘s LCD display products, the new series maintains the MultiSync® designation, with the letter “E” – representing Enterprise, indicating the LCD displays are designed for business, whilst “A” – for Advanced – indicates those models that have been designed and equipped with advanced functions for business applications. The subsequent numbers indicate the display size in inches and the particular model’s generation. Particular characteristics, such as wide-format (W) or multimedia functionality (M) in the form of loudspeakers, are shown by the sequence of letters at the end of the product name.
The NEC MultiSync® EA191M is the first model in the new NEC MultiSync® EA series. Particularly in this business market segment, NEC Display Solutions as a display manufacturer is strongly focused on developing environmentally-friendly components and technologies. The EPEAT system compares different electronics devices using 23 obligatory environmental criteria such as energy consumption and efficiency, use of hazardous materials, recycling, packaging and production methods. If an electronics device satisfies these 23 obligatory requirements then it is automatically awarded a “Bronze” certificate. The award of “Gold” and “Silver” certificates depends on satisfying additional optional criteria (28 for Gold, and 21 for Silver). With NEC’s MultiSync® EA191M – which has been awarded the EPEAT Silver certificate – businesses users can significantly reduce the running costs of the displays. For example, the 19” display has been designed to exhibit reduced power consumption: only 38 Watts whilst switched on and less than 2 Watts in stand-by mode. When the display is switched on or if the signal source is changed, a brief indicator appears informing the user of the status of the eco mode. If this has been enabled, then the brightness is limited to only a maximum 60% of what‘s possible. This setting reduces the carbon emissions of the LCD display. The carbon footprint meter on the on-screen menu (OSM) shows how much the carbon emissions are reduced when the brightness is turned down. This means that everyone, either at home or in the work place, can contribute to reducing their impact on climate change. A variety of other certifications such as Energy Star (version 4.0), Energy Label or RoHS underlines the importance that NEC Display Solutions places on protecting the environment.
Designed for Business
The new NEC MultiSync® EA191M is distinguished by its fully-considered design, high-quality equipment and an outstanding cost-performance ratio. The display has been specially developed to satisfy the demands of medium and large-sized businesses and its outstanding picture quality is truly impressive. The high-performance PVA panel offers more than 16.7 million representable colours at its optimal 1280 x 1024 resolution. The NTAA option (non-touch-auto-adjustment) constantly monitors and optimises the display’s settings when it’s first switched on and during normal operation. The new model is also ahead of the field when it comes to the representation of graphics, images or videos. With its sRGB support, it is equipped with a standardised colour space for the best possible image reproduction. This means that the 19” display is optimally suited for traditional office applications, as well as for semi-professional applications, such as entry-level CAD/CAM, document management or programming. In addition, the display can also be turned through 90 degrees to function in portrait mode.
The NEC MultiSync® EA191M opens numerous possibilities to customers to lower their operating costs. These include the low energy consumption, functions such as eco mode and intelligent power management, as well as the automatic stand-by mode. The NTAA not only ensures the appropriate settings for the LCD display, but also prevents frequent repairs to the equipment. Businesses which deploy a large number of displays are well aware of the advantages of a low TCO. For future-proofing and flexibility the LCD display has also been equipped with an analogue and a digital (DVI-D) connector with HDCP.
Ideal in the work place
The new model also scores highly due to the number of its ergonomic options which make working at the display not only pleasant but also more effective. The PVA panel offers very high vertical and horizontal viewing angles of 176 degrees, which gives a lot of freedom to the user for their choice of viewing point. In addition, the height of the screen can be adjusted by up to 110 mm, so as to adapt the monitor to individual needs. Two loudspeakers (which can be optionally disconnected) are discreetly positioned in the underside of the bezel. Overall, this enables a complete multimedia experience which is ideal, for example, for computer learning or for streaming applications. The OSM has been optimised for intuitive and user-friendly navigation. The operation buttons of the NEC MultiSync® EA191M have been unobtrusively placed in the underside of the bezel, whilst the navigation buttons have been stylishly and ergonomically integrated into the bezel’s front.
Gently rounded corners, sharp edges and a revised design characterised by restraint, all allow the NEC MultiSync® EA191M to fit perfectly into every kind of environment. Yet the elegant aesthetics also have practical advantages: the form of the bezel allows the almost seamless tiling of multiple displays, for example for multi-monitor solutions or for the installation of monitor walls.
