NEC NP3151W – Wide-Format Vista LCD installation projector with Plug&Play WLAN functionality

Munich, May 8, 2008 – NEC Display Solutions proudly presents its new NEC NP3151W LCD projector as a Windows Vista certified solution with WLAN functionality. The projector is an addition toNEC’s high-quality NP installation series (NP1150, NP2150, NP3150). NEC is the first manufacturer to have brought a projector onto the market with a Plug&Play WLAN connector. The wide-screen resolution of the NEC NP3151W is particularly impressive. Combined with a brightness of 4,000 ANSI lumens, the projector also achieves brilliant 16:9-format picture quality. The projector additionally comes with multiple connectors and signal inputs, as well as five optional bayonet lenses. The NEC NP3151W is excellently suited for presentations in large conference rooms, auditoriums, at point-of-sale (POS), or for events and shows. In addition, the equipment can also be deployed for 16:9 e-cinema or digital signage applications. Whether used within companies, in the high-end education sector, or by vendors of presentation systems, the NEC NP3151W offers top of the range wide-screen projection.

The new NEC NP3151W perfectly fulfils the requirements of wide-screen format presentations with complete flexibility. Its WXGA resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels and high brightness of 4,000 ANSI lumens ensure brilliant and detail-rich 16:9-format projection displays. In addition, the equipment comes with integrated WLAN functionality to ensure simple, wireless networking. This is due to its Windows Vista certified Plug&Play connections, so that the Windows Vista application “Windows Network Projector” enables the NEC NP3151W to be used for wireless presentations - no administrator rights are required since no additional software has to be installed.

The new wide-screen projector is particularly suited for large conference room application, at point-of-sale, for events and shows, as well as in the lecture theatres of universities or other education facilities. When deployed in these presentation spaces, the five optional interchangeable bayonet lenses are also very useful since they allow projection distances to be realised ranging from 0.89 metres through to over 50 metres. The vertical and horizontal lens shift function also allows the projector’s position to be altered whilst still providing a distortion-free picture. The equipment thus unifies high-quality projection with the ultimate in flexibility.

Perfect image reproduction with Hollywood Quality VideoTM (HQV™) technology

The NEC NP3151W utilises the new Silicon Optix Chip supporting HQV™ technology to achieve the highest quality video with maximum noise suppression. Static images are also displayed with greater sharpness and clarity. In addition the innovative 3D ReformTM feature, with keystone correction of horizontal, vertical and skew angles, offers pictures without any projection distortions. The geometric correction function, available with additional software from June 2008, makes it possible to project high-quality pictures onto curved, rounded or uneven surfaces, such as for example, onto pillars or into corners. The system is rounded off by the picture-in-picture (PIP) function, which allows the simultaneous projection of two signal sources, for example, integrating a video signal into running presentations.

The NEC NP3151W also supports the DICOM (Digital Imaging and Communications in Medicine) profile. The “DICOM Simulation“ function in the menu of the OSD allows image data to be represented according to the DICOM standard. This means the installation projector can also be used for teaching purposes and simulations in the medical sector. This is a new application area for projectors being opened up by NEC Display Solutions in the sector.

Flexible use of the NEC NP3151W is further extended by the variety of integrated  connectors. Alongside a USB port, the LCD projector is also fitted with a DVI-I connector with HDCP for digital signals. An RJ45 LAN port ensures network connectivity, whilst control and maintenance of the projector is via an RS-232 interface.

Security functions to prevent unauthorised use

Security is always an important issue for appliances within any public area. The NEC NP3151W offers a range of practical security functions to protect this valuable device from theft or unauthorised use. For example, users have the option to secure the projector via a password. Users also have a range of additional security precautions, such as for example, a cabinet control panel lock, a USB protection key, or a slot for a Kensington lock. Individual components of the appliance such as the optics or the WLAN module are securely screwed down to prevent theft. Additional protection is provided by the NP3151W’s option to display a background logo. This individually “brands” the equipment as its owner‘s – a distinguishable mark that is immediately obvious when someone else attempts to use it.

Along with the NEC NP3151W, the complete package includes a remote control, a Mini D-SUB signal cable (1.8m), a network cable (3m), a remote control cable (4m), a WLAN module, a lens cap, a user‘s handbook and a quick reference guide in 6 languages, as well as a CD-ROM containing support software for the projector.

Availability, price and warranty

The NEC NP3151W will be commercially available as from May 2008. NEC Display Solutions provides a free, on-site 3-year, next working-day service guarantee anywhere in Europe.
